Rhinoplasty Cost and Procedure
The type of nose surgery a patient will ultimately have depends entirely on their reason for having the procedure in the first place: for health reasons, reconstruction purposes or for cosmetic or aesthetic reasons. Once the patient and plastic surgeon have met at their initial consultation and determined which rhinoplasty procedure will achieve the desired results, then the surgery is scheduled.
Depending on the nose surgery being utilizes, the patient may be anesthetized completely, or the patient may have only a local anesthetic applied. Typically, the patient's health and their preference are considered when using anesthetics of any kind for a nose surgery procedure. The whole procedure should take no longer than two hours to complete, but may take longer if complications arise. Once the procedure begins, the plastic surgeon will make small incisions within the nostrils and in some cases also along the piece of skin that lies between the nostrils. There are two different procedures that can be carried out. There is open rhinoplasty, in which incisions are made on the outside and inside the nose and nostrils. Closed rhinoplasty is the other option, in which incisions are made inside the nostrils only. After the plastic surgeon removes the layers of skin and cartilage, the doctor can begin to change the shape of the bones and nasal structure in a way that gets rid of any imperfections. Sometimes pieces are removed from the nose, and sometimes bone or cartilage is added to the nose in order to obtain the desired results.
When it comes to performing surgery on the nose in order to increase areas versus removing or shaving down, more work and surgical skill needs to be applied. Some cartilage can be used to reinforce the structure of the nose, and this can help improve a person's breathing. There is typically a splint that is applied to help the nose maintain its new shape while it heals.
In cases of health or quality of life, rhinoplasty may be covered by a patient's insurance provider. Cosmetic or aesthetic reasons for nose jobs are rarely covered by insurance companies; however there are some exceptions that you should discuss with both your Doctor and your insurance provider. The cost for rhinoplasty varies from surgeon to surgeon and from one area of the country to another. Also keep in mind that any figures given are usually the surgeon's fee only and a patient should factor in additional costs for anesthesia, and facility or hospital fees.
Currently in the U.S, both open and closed rhinoplasty procedures range in cost between $3000 and $6500. In cases such as revisions, where a Doctor needs to rebuild sections of the nose due to another surgeon's error, nose surgeries can range from $7000 up to $10,000.
Rhinoplasty (Nose Job) Preparation
First, a patient will be in consultation with your physician to discuss their options with respect to Rhinoplasty. Nose surgery, a relatively simple, still requires that certain protocol is followed and the health of a patient must be determined before nose surgery can take place. The physician must ensure that the individual is both mentally and emotionally prepared for surgery nose surgery, and also need to ensure that they are a good candidate for elective surgery. Two weeks before surgery of the nose, it is important that the patient stop taking certain medications, including aspirin, other pain relievers, diet pills and herbal supplements. These medications can thin your blood, making it harder to clot. When the work is done on the nose, blood will be able to coagulate at a moderate pace, to promote proper healing. This is also why it is important not to drink alcohol the night before surgery of the nose.
Some medical institutions will establish a plan of vitamins and medicines to the person before her nose surgery as a precaution. It will also help the person at a basic level. Other programs do not include a vitamin regime, but most establishments They suggest having the prescriptions filled and ready before the nose surgery is performed. Some propose to have another person available only to help, and that these preparations are made before the date of the transaction.
Rhinoplasty - Recovery
The type of sedation used for surgery will be a factor in the time of the patient's immediate recovery. If only local anesthetic is used, then the person will be able to move slowly after surgery. On the other hand, if general anesthesia is used, then the person will have more time to recover, as they will have to wake up and have time to be worn again. For a week after surgery, most doctors insist that the patient wears a splint on the bridge of his nose. This will help keep the nose steady and stable, while the patient is recovering. Patients generally still able to go home the same day of surgery, and the whole process typically takes no more than three hours to complete.
Bruising on the face and black eyes usually subsides within 3-7 days, but if the nasal bones were broken in the procedure time could double take as long as 14 days to go. There is a significant amount of time that appears swollen nose, and can take 1-6 months for the swelling is completely gone. This depends on whether a person has had an open or closed surgery of the nose. Closed Rhinoplasty is the type of surgery is performed when no incision just inside the nose. Open rhinoplasty requires the surgeon to make incisions on the outside of the tip of the nose, in addition to incisions inside the nose. Avoid contact sports for six weeks after surgery. Most participants in this elective surgery are complete results without bruising and swelling, within 6 months or less.
